This winter we expect more than 400 children from Woodstock and surrounding towns to participate in Alpine and Nordic learn-to-ski and ski racing programs organized and run by Woodstock Ski Runners. For more than 70 years, our mission has been to pass along a love and enthusiasm for skiing as a lifetime sport to as many children as possible. Last year we provided scholarships in the form of waived program fees and/or leased ski equipment to over 20 skiers. In order to continue to serve our community, we need your financial support.

Woodstock Ski Runners organizes and runs:

Friday afternoon “Learn-to Ski” programs in downhill and cross-country skiing for elementary school children. Last year over 300 children participated from Woodstock, Barnard, Bethel, Bridgewater, Hartford, Hartland, Pomfret, Plymouth, Reading, South Royalton, Taftsville, Quechee and West Windsor.

Nordic (cross-country) racing programs consisting of the Bill Koch League for children ages 8 to 14, and the recently re-established Woodstock Union High School Nordic Ski Team.

Alpine (downhill) racing programs, including the Development Team (a learn-to-race program), the Vermont Alpine Race Association (VARA) group of more experienced racers and the Woodstock Union High School Ski Team. Our new “Mid Runners” program for seventh and eighth graders provides a bridge between the Development Team and the High School Alpine Ski Team.

Whether they are Friday afternoon skiers, beginning racers, or seasoned veterans, children are learning to love the sport of skiing and conquer the many challenges it provides.

We are very fortunate every year to have more than 50 volunteer instructors, organizers and helpers from the community whose time and energy help make these programs possible.

Woodstock Ski Runners is a non-profit organization that relies on participation fees and local fundraising events, including an annual Golf Tournament, Ski Sale, and Holiday Wreath Sale. However, these fundraising activities do not meet our financial needs, so we are asking for your support.

Please send us your generous tax-deductible contribution along with the enclosed donation form in the envelope provided and help us continue to provide a vital recreational service to children in our communities.
