About our alpine Programs

Woodstock Ski Runners offers alpine skiing and ski racing programs for participants age 6-18. We emphasize fun and provide the motivation and instruction to help your child be the best skier they can be. All of our alpine programs meet at the Ski Runners Clubhouse at Saskadena 6.

The head coaches of each program are US Ski & Snowboard certified and teach a curriculum based on US Ski & Snowboard skill drills, focused all-mountain skiing, and gate training. We teach the skills necessary for ski racing success, but we also have fun translating these skills to the entire mountain! Our goal is to help your child build the foundation for a lifetime of dynamic skiing using the backdrop of ski racing.

Families join the Club by paying an annual membership fee of $200 to help offset administrative costs associated with running the alpine programs. If you’re new to Ski Runners or ski programs in general, the first thing you’ll need to know is that most programs are organized by your child’s birth year. There is a brief outline of all programs below; for all the details of a specific program, such as the dates, the cost, or who the coach is, please click the links to the left!

Woodstock Ski Runners is a member of the Vermont Alpine Racing Association (VARA) and we compete in VARA’s Mid-Vermont Council (MVC.) The MVC functions like a league and also includes the ski teams from Quechee, Okemo, Killington, Pico, and Middlebury.

Note: WSR does not offer refunds in the event of weather cancellation and/or lift unavailability at Saskadena Six.

Alpine Development (DEVO) - for 6-9 year olds born in 2014-2017

It all begins here. “Devo,” as we call it, is for kids that have some skiing experience that want to push their skills to the next level. The kids benefit from small groups and a low coach-to-skier ratio. Our coaches make sure they have tons of fun while they learn the fundamentals of proper skiing stance and movement. They will learn to ski the entire mountain and be introduced to steeps, moguls and just a little racing. We’ll participate in two “Masters of the Mountain” Events. These fun days include scored runs in racing, moguls and freeskiing. Devo meets on weekends.

U10 Racing Program - Birth years 2014, 2015, 2016

Skiers as young as age 7 are eligible for the U10 Racing Program. If your child has a season or two of experience in DEVO, they are probably ready for U10 Racing. We begin to spend more time skiing in gates, though we still spend a lot of our time freeskiing the entire mountain. They will also participate in their first real ski races! We emphasize a team atmosphere and encourage everyone to support their teammates and fellow competitors on race day. U10 meets on Saturdays and Sundays. US Skiing and VARA memberships are required.

Important: Skiers born in 2014, 2015 and 2016 have the option to enroll in either Alpine Development or U10 Racing.  If you have any questions about these programs or which might be a better fit for your child, please contact us at office@skirunners.com.

A natural progression from U10, U12s will refine their skills while having more opportunities to race. We still emphasize all-mountain fun, though! All-Mountain Program - For Birth years 2010 - 20113

Skiers with less competitive zeal or perhaps less time to devote to training have a ton of fun in our All-Mountain Program. As the name implies, the goal here is to teach and inspire them to ski the whole mountain with confidence: the groomers, the steeps, the moguls, the trees, everything! The All-Mountain  are also able to enter the “Masters of the Mountain” events. All-Mountain meets on weekends.

In U14, the racing becomes a little more competitive. There are more races per season including an introduction to speed events! No previous racing experience is required, but successful participants should be able to ski all types of terrain and have the desire to learn to race. For some U14s, the goal is to qualify for the Vermont State Championships.  Training is offered every day of the week except Monday and Tuesday. US Skiing and VARA memberships are required.

U16 Racing Program - Birth years 2008 & 2009

U16s race in the VT Cup and George Tormey Series events and score USSA points. The coaches will determine which races to attend. Some of our U16s relish this level of competition and race as often as they can. Others relish the opportunity to train with Ski Runners acclaimed coaching staff and take these skills back to their high school ski teams. We’ll work with your child to address their individual goals. We train 5 days a week; every day except Monday and Tuesday. The U16s and U19s will generally train and race together. US Skiing and VARA memberships are required.
